INKA - NEVER AGAIN

On November 8, 2006 we received a call from SEPRONA (Service for the Protection of Nature) warning us that there was horse in terrible conditions to be rescud in the village of La Anoia.

We got in touch with a trucker, and we sent him to pick up the animal. By phone they gave us the first bad news, she was a mare in the last phase of malnutrition, and she couldn´t rest one of her back legs on the ground. We were fearing the worst, so we asked the veterinary to be present at the moment of the mare´s arrival. When she arrived our fears were completely confirmed.

The mare, a beauty of only six years old, had a double fracture of her right hind leg, it had been an open fracture, but it has closed in false, with a terrible added infection. That gave us an approximate idea of what she had suffered during all this time, closed in a enclosure without food, only with the water left by the rain, and surrounded by pasture totally out of her reach. We only had to look at the pictures to feel rage. What had she done to be condemned to this horrific death full of pain and hunger?

We are not going to say what we would do to her owner, if we could because is “politically incorrect”. We couldn´t do anything to help “INKA” (it was the name in her documents, with just only a vaccine when she was six months old), we only could give her a handful of hay that she couldn´t finish, because the anaesthetic made effect before, and she finally escaped the suffering and hunger forever.

Please, horses' friends, if you see cases of negligence, mistreatment, or abuse, denounce them to SEPRONA, or to the Police department of the pertinent City Council, or to us, because these cases have to stop.

It is impossible not to see those cases, we really prefer to make a visit for nothing than to arrive too late. Don´t think that this is an exceptional case, unfortunately this happens quite often. We have a Protection Animal Law, so help us to enforce it. L.
